Dear GEMS families,
Arts are integral to the International Baccalaureate program at GEMS World Academy Chicago. They are a powerful mode of communication through which our students can explore and construct a sense of self and develop an understanding of the world around them. Arts engage students in creative processes through which they explore and experiment in a continual cycle of action and reflection. Such creative processes are seen by the IB program as the driving force in learning through inquiry.
To that end, the Visual and Performing Arts Departments at GEMS World Academy Chicago is hosting a series of programs in spring 2017 that give students the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents. Please save the date for these exciting events! All of these events will include all grades listed, and they'll be held in our sixth-floor gym. The events are free with general admission seating. (Unless otherwise noted.)
- Friday, April 28: Transdisciplinary MYP Fashion Show from 9:30 - 11:00 p.m. for all Middle School students
- Friday, May 19: Lower School Visual Arts Show and Middle School Instrument Performance from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. (Please note: this event is an art gallery walk - you can attend at any time during the showcase.)
- Preschool - Jr. Kindergarten Showcase: second floor
- Kindergarten-Grade 5 and Middle School Instrument Ensemble Performances: Dining Hall (fifth floor)
- Thursday, May 25: Yellow Submarine Choir Concert - Part One for all preschool and junior-kindergarten students from 8:30 - 9 a.m.
- Friday, May 26: Yellow Submarine - Part Two for all kindergarten and first-grade students from 8:30 - 9:00 a.m.
- Thursday, June 1: Grade 7 & 8 One Act Night from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
- Friday, June 2: Grade 6A/6B One Act Night from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
- Friday, June 9: Grades 2-5 Talent show from 4 - 6 p.m. (Optional Participation)
- Sign-ups will be posted on April 4 on Ms. Lind's Door (Room 215)
- Auditions will be the week of May 8 during recess and after school
- Dress rehearsal (required for participants) will be June 8 from 3:30 - 5 p.m.
- Be on the lookout for an additional email about audition requirements!
